Announcement for the Eumetcal Course on Short Term Ensembles

Eumetcal, with the help of the GLAMEPS working group, has developed a new fully online course on short term ensembles which will be available from now on. This new course is intended for forecasters, but also interested researchers who want to learn more about the use of short term ensembles are welcome.

After completing this course, the student should know what kinds of uncertainties are represented in short-range ensemble models, how he/she can assess the performance of your short range ensemble (also compared to other models and ensembles) and the student should know how to use your short term ensemble.

The course starts theoretical, which may be tough, but the later presentations are more applied in character. To be able to benefit most a minimum level of WMO BIP-M is required.
This course consists of web lectures and assignments. The students will be able to do this course where and when it suits him/her best. It will take the student about two days to complete this course.

However it is not recommended to do this course in one go. It is better to spread the course activities over a longer period.
For the GLAMEPS countries, the course ends with a GLAMEPS specific block, in which GLAMEPS- specific issues will be handled. Other countries using different short-term ensemble models are welcome to add their own model-specific block to this Eumetcal course. In that case please contact the course manager Heleen ter Pelkwijk (
