Nomek (Nordisk Meteorologisk Kompetensutbildning) refers to a co-operation that was originally agreed on by the Director Generals of the Nordic NMSs. It has been and is continuously developed jointly by the Education and Training Managers of these NMSs. The program started in 1995 and has established as a one week course typically in the Spring time. It is partly supported by Eumetsat which also each year sends an expert to give some lectures in satellite meteorology.

The objective of the course is to develop and deliver training program that brings the new developments in meteorology and forecasting tools to the forecasters and to promote networking among forecasters and experts from the participating countries.

The activities of Nomek program have been managed by the Nordic Meteorological service which is responsible for the course in the following year. The administrative group meets twice annually.

  • NOMEK 2016

    This course will be organised by the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LEGMC) in collaboration with the Nordic meteorological institutes and with a support from EUMETSAT.

    This course was organised by Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) in collaboration with the Nordic meteorological institutes and with a support from Eumetsat.

    This course is organised by the Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO) in collaboration with the other Nordic meteorological institutes and with the support from Eumetsat and Eumetcal.

    This course was organised by LHMS in collaboration with the Nordic meteorological institutes and with a support from Eumetsat.
