MeteoCAL

MeteoCAL is an e-learning authoring tool based on the XML language. The authoring of the e-learning modules is done by editing xml templates then passing them on to a html converter.

The tools require some previous knowledge of computers and even programming but are nervertheless fairly easy to get into. EUMETSAT holds annual workshops to get trainers acquainted with the tool. Several examples of the e-learning modules created with the tool can be seen in the "Learning Modules" section of this web site.

The rights to the MeteoCAL tools have been bought by EUMETSAT who have since decided to distribute them freely to whoever is interested in using them. You are free to use these tools and develop them according to your own needs.

The tools can be donwloaded here

The zipped file (39.8 Mb) contains several templates and examples of finished modules. For reference onthe use of the tools, please consult the maintenance manual.

Update

After closing a contract with a local company, EUMETSAT is happy to announce the end of a small nightmare with the java versions which made Meteocal work and those which did not.

You can download the bugfix here

To use the bugfix, give another name to your "tools" directory (at the level of source and www) and replace it with the one attached (which is compressed).

EUMETSAT continues to work with the company, next is a GUI with masks to generate knowledge objects in a faster way, foreseen for August.
