by Jaakko Karppanen - Monday, 25 June 2007, 06:42 PM
Application for the Eumetcal NWP Course organised by the FMI in cooperation with ECMWF, DWD, Met.no and ZAMG is now closed. We received 15 applications of which 13 were selected for the course 22/10 - 14/12/2007. All selected participants have been informed of the outcome and we are looking forward to starting our second blended learning course during next fall!
Aviation Course Evaluation 2007
by Jaakko Karppanen - Tuesday, 17 April 2007, 07:29 PM
We can happily conclude that the Advanced Aviation blended learning course was a tremendous success. A warm thank you to the ENM team in Toulouse for all the hard work done for the course and many thanks to all of the students of this course.

The course proved the capabilities of especially online disctance learning tools in saving time and travel for such a mixed meteorological audience. We are happy to announce the continuation of Eumetcal courses in autumn and in the future as well, check back to this site for updates and information on the courses! Please find attached a short summary on the results of the course evaluation.
NWP Course Application Open

  Eumetcal NWP Course 22 October - 14 December 2007

The second Eumetcal blended learning course will be devoted to Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) for forecasters and delivered by FMI in collaboration with Met.no, ECMWF, DWD and ZAMG from 22 October to 14 December 2007 (exact dates of the weekly online sessions remain to be fixed). Relevant details about this course can be found in the attached announcement. The course will be divided into two distance learning phases, first of which will take place from 22 October to 23 November followed by a four days classroom session in Langen, Germany from 26 to 29 November 2007 and a final distance learning phase from 3 to 14 December 2007.

Due to the nature of the course we require each student to have access to local assistance from technical (ICT) and NWP experts. The availability of local expertise will provide a valuable link with the local working environment. The task of the local tutor is to provide support to the student in cooperation with the Eumetcal Training Support Officer.

The attendance to the weekly live distance learning sessions will require good internet connections (at least 256 Kb/s) and access to a PC with recent Windows operating system and an Internet Explorer browser, as well as relevant multimedia hardware (microphone, headset) at the disposal of the student. Detailed specifications can be found from the website of Eumetcal Courses in due time but no later than 1 October 2007.

You are invited to send applications to this course by 1st June 2007, together with relevant pieces of information directly to the Academic Director, Mr. Vesa Nietosvaara at the FMI.

The participants will be selected based on compliance with target audience definition and prerequisites and also taking into account an objective of sharing training experience over Europe.
