Eumetcal/EUMeTrain Satellite Image Interpretation and Applications Course

In the series of Eumetcal and EUMeTrain Satellite Courses the next module will be on Satellite Image Interpretation and Applications (module 2) June & Sep-Oct. The registration is now open!


The Satellite Image Interpretation and Applications Course will
start the 10th of June 2011 and consists of a series of sequential online lectures. Experts from EUMETSAT and EUMeTrain will teach advanced satellite image interpretation, the efficient use of enhancements as well as RGB images. Moreover practical applications in case of convection will be addressed. The first period on online lectures will close at the end of June for the holiday season.

Based on the importance of nowcasting fog, dust and forest fires, a second period on online lectures will start at beginning of September. During these lectures international experts will explain tools which will increase your skills in nowcasting using satellite data. In addition, the use of satellite data for sea weather forecasts will be explained. The lectures and the course end on October, the 28th.

The course is designed for operational forecasters and meets the competencies defined within the WMO framework.

Eumetcal and EUMeTrain invite member institutions to send to the course applicants who have strong interest in satellite meteorology and will to transfer the knowledge and skills achieved in the course to the fellow colleagues in his/her institution.

Format of the course

- the course starts 10 June and ends 28 October, with a summer break in July-August.
- The series of online lectures will be held on a regular basis: Tuesday and Thursday at 09UTC.
- A detailed schedule will be issued on the learning platform of EUMeTrain at: moodle.eumetrain.org

Course fee and registration

- The course fee will be €1000 per student. Each Eumetcal member institution is eligible to one course fee sponsorship kindly granted by EUMETSAT.
